Back Country Skiing and Boarding (with a Guide)

Getting off the beaten track is one of the real joys of spending any time in the mountains. There is no denying that hiking up and looking for that virgin snow is as exhiliarating at it comes but as recent seasons have shown the risks in terms of injuries and fatalities is high.

In resort a lot of the danger is removed by well trained ski patrollers who are specialists in assessing the risk to skiers and snowboarders within the resort boundaries. If you leave the resort however you're on your own and will have to rely on your guide or your own judgement to assess the risk, especially with regard to avalanches.

From a travel insurance perspective, underwriters see this as a particularly high risk activity and such you will have to pay an additional premium to cover this activity.

The insurance booking engine above has been pre-programmed to return the correct premium to cover back country skiing and boarding as standard as well as any other sports in the same risk category or lower. These activities can be viewed on the results page under the activities tab or in the full policy wordings on display.

You must choose the dates for the full journey, starting from and ending at your home and not the dates of the activity.

Any claims which arise whilst undertaking any of these activities for any purpose other than leisure (examples of non-leisure purposes include professional/semi-professional / paid/sponsored racing, timed events – unless otherwise specified, professional, display events, photo shoots, etc...) will not be covered under this policy. We consider ‘professional or competitive’ to be activities/sports where you are either paid for participating in, receive any element of sponsorship, fees or prize money in excess of £200.
